Joel Zivot, MD, MA, JM
Joel B. Zivot, MD, MA, JM, is an associate professor of anesthesiology/surgery at Emory University and a senior fellow at the Emory Center for Ethics. He earned his MD in 1988 from the University of Manitoba. He became a Fellow of the Royal College in Anesthesiology in 1993, and earned his MA in bioethics from Emory University and his JM from Emory School of Law. He has been published in several peer-reviewed medical and law review journals. Zivot has been quoted in the New York Times, Washington Post, NPR, BBC, and The Atlantic, among others, and has published in The Hill, Slate, CNN, TIME, and STAT. Zivot has also taught Tibetan monks biology, and has testified in death penalty defense, on drug shortages, and on medical aid in dying (MAID). His ľֱ column, “Uncharted Territory,” focuses on the intersection of medicine, law, and bioethics.
